She Said She Could Not Function. Our Investigators Documented Something Very Different.

surveillance workplace claim

When a Claim Does Not Match What You Are Hearing

A Houston business owner came to Terrance Private Investigator & Associates with a situation that was costing her more than money. A former employee had resigned following a workplace confrontation and was now alleging significant emotional distress and physical limitations as a result. The claim painted a picture of someone who was struggling to function in daily life.

The business owner had reason to question that picture. In our experience, when what someone is claiming and what people close to the situation are observing do not line up, documentation is the only thing that closes that gap.

She retained our team to conduct discreet surveillance and document the subject’s actual daily activities, physical capabilities, and public presentation. What our investigators found over five days told a very different story than what had been alleged.

The Claim Was Serious. The Questions Were Too.

The subject alleged that a verbal workplace confrontation had left her with ongoing emotional distress, anxiety, and physical limitations significant enough to prevent her from working. She had since resigned and was reportedly running her own private business on the side.

In our experience, claims like this require careful, objective documentation. We are not in the business of proving or disproving medical diagnoses. What our investigators do is observe and document behavior as it actually occurs in the real world. What someone does when they do not know they are being watched tells its own story.

Our client needed that story documented. Our team got to work.

Five Days. Errands. Yard Work. Business Attire. And No Signs of What Was Claimed.

Our investigators conducted five days of surveillance in the Houston area, documenting the subject’s activities at her residence and throughout the community during both weekday and weekend periods.

During surveillance, the subject was observed shopping at a large retail warehouse store, walking throughout the store, socializing, carrying items, and moving without visible difficulty. Later that evening, she was documented unloading groceries, repositioning furniture, handling household items, and sweeping the garage floor without apparent assistance or limitation.

On another surveillance day, the subject returned home in professional business attire carrying paperwork and a bag, then walked around the yard, took out trash, and pulled weeds from flower beds. On the final day, she remained in her vehicle for approximately thirty minutes appearing to speak by phone before entering the residence, where her husband assisted with items from the vehicle.

Throughout the observation period, our investigator documented no visible signs of emotional distress, mobility issues, anxiety, avoidance behavior, or physical limitations consistent with the claims being made.

The Activity Log Told the Story the Claim Did Not.

In our experience, surveillance of this kind does not produce a single dramatic moment. It produces a pattern. And in this case, the pattern was consistent across every day our investigators were in the field.

The subject drove independently, shopped at a large retail store without assistance, carried bags, handled household items, moved furniture, performed light yard maintenance, and maintained regular social interactions with family members and visitors. She appeared in professional business attire on at least one occasion, consistent with active professional engagement.

None of that is what someone describes when they say they cannot function in daily life. Our investigators documented the reality. That documentation now exists as a factual record our client can use.
